It includes texts, images, videos, and other digitized media as well as voice transmission. CoIP uses the same parameters as VoIP in the continuous effort to converge all types of communications over a single IP pipeline. TheC in CoIP can also stand for conferencingbecause of the H.323 standard that promotes compatibility in video over IP to provide consistent audio, video, and data transmission in case a local area network cannot guarantee the quality of service over a network. Service providers are upgrading the systems used to provide voice services for the first time in many years. But the upgrades come at a time when the industry is in the early phase of a technology transition to software-defined architectures.The last big buying cycle for voice services was driven by growth in mobile subscribers. Since then, subscriber growth has leveled off, and service providers cut their spending on voice systems in half.

African VoIP Carriers Value Speed and Loyalty for Increasing Growth over OTT Markets
The developing African telecommunications market is steadily growing, and is about to become a one billion person market worth nearly $20 billion. As such, there are several teleco operators that are fighting a turf war over who will provide service to these customers, with mobile carriers squaring off against Over the Top (OTT) providers of similar services. It appears however that the existing service providers still have an edge over OTT providers in both speed of service and customer loyalty, but the carriers will have to act quickly to provide the same benefits OTT providers offer before they become carriers themselves.
